The complete thyroid care guide
Overview
The thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland that sets the body's metabolic pace. In hypothyroidism it slows down — causing fatigue, weight gain, coldness and low mood. In hyperthyroidism it races — causing weight loss, palpitations and anxiety. Most common in India is hypothyroidism, frequently autoimmune (Hashimoto's).
- Hypothyroidism: fatigue, weight gain, constipation, hair thinning
- Hyperthyroidism: palpitations, sweating, weight loss, irritability
- Autoimmune origins make stress and nutrition important co-factors
- Sub-clinical thyroid disease is common and often missed
